1988 Ian Baker-Finch triumphs at the Bridgestone Aso Open on the Japan Golf Tour by one shot and wins ¥7,200,000 (about US$54,000 at the time) - and a cow! The town of Aso being a large centre for dairy produce, this no doubt seemed an appropriate act of product placement. Clearly feeling the prize would be unhappy with a life in his trophy cabinet, Baker-Finch reluctantly sold the cow back to the sponsors for US$5,000.
The victory was Baker-Finch's second in a fortnight, having taken the Pocari Sweat Open the week before. We prefer not to dwell on what he might have received in addition to the winner's cheque for that one...
