(Y.E.) Yang Yong-eun wins the 91st PGA Championship at Hazeltine National in Minnesota, the first Asian-born* player to win a major championship. His three-shot victory over Tiger Woods was highly unexpected, marking the first time that Woods had failed to win a major in which he was leading (by two shots over Yang and Padraig Harrington) after 54 holes. It was the final major in which Woods competed before the car crash which brought revelations of multiple affairs and finally his divorce from Elin Nordegren. The course at Hazeltine was at the time the longest ever played in a major at 7,674 yards.
* 'Asian-born' because both Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh have parents of Asian origin.
