A spectator is killed by lightning during a weather delay in the first round of the PGA Championship at Crooked Stick, Indiana. It is the second lightning death to occur at a major championship in 1991, after six people were struck during the US Open at Hazeltine, Minnesota, killing one of them.
Raymond Floyd wins his second PGA Championship - and the third of his four major championships - by three shots from Lanny Wadkins. Floyd scored 63-69-68-72 for a 272 total at Southern Hills, Oklahoma, winning wire to wire, and achieved his record-equalling first round 63 in temperatures exceeding 100° F (38°C).
