1962 Sam Snead, then aged 49, wins the Royal Poinciano Plaza Golf Invitational on the LPGA Tour, the first and only time a man has won an official LPGA event. Played over 54 holes at the Palm Beach Golf Club's par 3 course in Florida, the field of amateurs and pros consisted of 14 women and Snead, with Snead winning by five shots from Mickey Wright. The previous year Snead had finished third in a mixed field of 24, two shots behind the winner Louise Suggs.
