1944 Graham Vivian (Swampy) Marsh, MBE, is born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Although he never won a major - the closest he came was 4th in the 1973 Open Championship - he was a highly successful globetrotter, amassing 60 worldwide Tour victories, plus another 10 senior titles, including two senior majors. Awarded the MBE in 1984, he is now active in golf course design, where the Vines Resort in Perth is perhaps his best known work.
Marsh's younger brother Rodney was the record-breaking Australian cricketer who kept wicket to super-fast bowlers Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson in their heyday.
