1967 David Wayne Toms is born in Monroe, Louisiana. He won the 83rd PGA Championship in 2001 at the Atlanta Athletic Club with rounds of 66-65-65-69 for a 72 hole score of 265, which remains the lowest absolute score in major championship history, beating Phil Mickelson by one shot. He also won 12 other PGA Tour titles and has been ranked as high as World No. 5.
Toms was the recipient of the 2011 Payne Stewart Award, given to the golfer who best shares Stewart’s respect for golf tradition, commitment to charity and presentation of himself and the sport through his dress and conduct.
