1897 Percy AllissPercy Alliss is born in Sheffield, England. Father of Peter Alliss (b. 28 February, 1931), Percy was a fine golfer who won the German Open five times, as well as the Italian Open, the Penfold Tournament and the News of the World Matchplay twice each. In the 18 year period from 1922 to 1932 he finished in the top 10 of the Open Championship ten times, his highest finish being a tie for third in 1931 at Carnoustie. He also played in four Ryder Cups, and when son Peter played the first of his eight Ryder Cups in 1953 they became the first father and son pair in the history of the Matches, a feat only equalled once since by Antonio and Ignacio Garrido.
