1979 Samuel Jackson Snead (nicknamed 'Slamming Sam' for his power off the tee) at age 67 becomes the first player to shoot his age on the PGA Tour in the second round of the Ed McMahon Quad Cities Open. Remarkably just two days later he would go one better and beat his age with a closing 66. He did not win the tournament, finishing in a tie for 36th 11 shots behind D.A. Weibring, but his record of 67 at age 67 still stands.
