2013 Justin Rose wins the 113th US Open by two shots from Phil Mickelson and Jason Day, and becomes the first English winner of the event since Tony Jacklin in 1970 at Hazeltine. It is also the first major victory for an Englishman since Nick Faldo at the 1996 Masters, 68 major championships earlier. Rose is just the ninth Englishman to win the US Open, following Horace Rawlins (1895), Joe Lloyd (1897), Harry Vardon (1900), George Sargent (1909), Ted Ray (1920), Jim Barnes (1921), Cyril Walker (1924) and Tony Jacklin (1970). His winning score at Merion Golf Club is 281, 1 over par. For runner-up Mickelson it is the sixth time he has finished second - sadly for him a US Open record.
