2010 18 year old Ryo Ishikawa shoots 58 in the final round to win The Crowns on the Japan Golf Tour over the 6,545 yard, par 70 Nagoya Golf Club Wago Course. It is the first recorded 58 on one of the major professional tours. Ishikawa trailed the leader Shigeki Maruyama by six shots after three rounds but won by five clear shots on a day when the next best score was a 65. He birdied nine of his first eleven holes and missed a 15 footer at the 18th for a 57.
1981 Ron Streck wins the Michelob Houston Open using TaylorMade 'metal' woods. Nothing extraordinary today, but this was first tournament won by the new clubs, which burst onto the scene in 1979, the brainchild of Gary Adams, founder of TaylorMade. Streck was also the first player to use them in tournament play.
For the record, Streck shot rounds of 68-68-62 to lead by three shots, but when the fourth round was washed out by six inches of rain and played remained impossible early on the Monday morning, he was declared the winner, possibly the only golfer to win a golf tournament while in bed.
