2009 Defending champion Miguel Angel Jiménez makes an albatross in the third round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth by holing a 6-iron from 206 yards at the par 5 4th. It was the highlight of his defence, in which he finished tied 43rd, 17 shots behind winner Paul Casey. The albatross was the second of Jiménez' career, having achieved the feat 15 years earlier at Valderrama in the Volvo Masters.
2002 Samuel Jackson Snead (often called 'Slammin' Sammy', for the prodigious length he achieved with his classic, smooth swing) died. Winner of seven major championships, he also holds the all-time record for the number of victories on the PGA Tour with 82, including the 1965 Greater Greensboro Open. This was a double record for Snead; it was his eigth win in the event, and he won at the rage of 52 years and 311 days, making him the oldest player to win a PGA Tour event.
