Kathy Whitworth wins the LPGA Pensacola Ladies Invitational, her 45th LPGA title and the ninth of her ten wins in 1968. It was part of a brilliant year-end streak which saw here win four of the five scheduled tournaments played in a six-week period. Although they did not include any of her six majors, Whitworth's ten victories of 1968 were the most in a single year of her career, during which she won an all-time record 88 titles in a 23 year span from 1962 to 1985. Over the five years from 1965 to 1969, she won a total of 42 tournaments.
Whitworth also holds the LPGA record for the most consecutive seasons with at least one win with 17, from 1962 to 1978.
