2012 Miguel Angel Jiménez wins the UBS Hong Kong Open and becomes the oldest winner of a European Tour event at 48 years, 10 months and 13 days, eclipsing the previous record of Des Smyth at the 2001 Madeira Islands Open by 284 days. It is Jiménez' 19th European Tour victory, 12 of those wins coming after he turned 40.
1936 Brian HuggettBrian George Charles Huggett, MBE is born in Porthcawl, Wales. A regular winner on the European circuit with 16 titles in as many years between 1962 and 1978, he was a small man (5ft 6in) but a fierce competitor, sometimes referred to as the 'Welsh Bulldog'. He had two top three finishes in the Open Championship (2nd behind Peter Thomson in 1965 and 3rd behind Arnold Palmer n 1962), and played in six Great Britain and Ireland Ryder Cup teams, earning 11 points with an 8-10-6 record. He also captained the (losing) 1977 GB&I team. He was inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
