1967 (Sir) Bob Charles wins the Atlanta Classic by two shots from Tommt Bolt, Dick Crawford and Gardner Dickinson, the fourth of his six PGA Tour victories. The tournament - which later became the BellSouth Classic and the AT&T Classic, before being cancelled in 2008 - was played at the Atlanta Country Club, and marked the first modern-era event played in Atlanta (the last having been the Atlanta Open in 1947).
The city is now of course host to the crowning event of the PGA Tour season with the Tour Championship having, since 2004, a permanent home at Bobby Jones' old club East Lake.
