2010 Lee Westwood becomes World No. 1 - without playing that week - when PGA champion Martin Kaymer fails to finish among the top two at the Andalucia Masters in Spain. Westwood is the first European since Nick Faldo in 1994 to hold the No. 1 spot, and the 13th player to be No. 1 since the ranking system began in 1986. He would hold the position for 17 weeks until it was taken by Kaymer, and regain it for 5 weeks in April-May 2011 before losing it to Luke Donald.
1967 Mardan Mamat is born in Singapore. Turning pro in 1994, he has become Singapore's most successful golfer to date with 12 professional victories to his name, including the 2006 Singapore Masters, which made him the first Singaporean to win on the European Tour. He was also the first from his country to play in the Open Championship in 1997, and has represented Singapore five times in the World Cup, in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2011.
