1869 'Young' Tom Morris scores the earliest recorded competitive hole-in-one, in the first round of the Open Championship at Prestwick's 166 yard 8th hole, en route to claiming his second successive Open title and the Championship Belt. The shot helped him to a first round (12 hole) score of 50, which he would follow with rounds of 55 and 52 for a 157 total and a victory margin of 11 shots, the third highest ever, behind his own 1870 victory by 12 shots and his father's 1862 victory by 13 shots.
