||Kathy Whitworth is born in Monahan, Texas and began playing golf at the age of 15. Three years later she was already winning State Amateur Championships, before turning pro at 19 in 1958. Between 1962 and 1985 she won a total of 88 times on the LPGA Tour, a record unequalled on either the LPGA or PGA Tours, and for 17 straight years from 1962 to 1978 she won at least one title, the longest winning streak in LPGA history.
Her victories included six major championships, and she was voted LPGA Player of the Year seven times between 1966 and 1973. Whitworth won the Vare Trophy for best scoring average a record seven times between 1965 and 1972, and in 1981 became the first LPGA player to surpass $1 million in career earnings. She also captained the US side in the inaugural Solheim Cup in 1990.
