Rory McIlroy steps into the big time with FJ
June 21, 2011

FootJoyFootJoy, the #1 Shoe and Glove in Golf, is delighted to announce the success of its ambassador Rory McIlroy after the 22 year-old walked into the record books following a stunning 8-shot victory at the U.S. Open on Sunday. The Northern Irishman finished a stunning 16-under par as he broke a host of records on the way to claiming his maiden Major Championship victory. Leading from the front after opening with a flawless round of 65, McIlroy posted 3 more rounds in the 60's to compile the lowest winning score in championship history.

Renowned for its challenging conditions, it comes as no surprise McIlroy chose the shoe and glove market leaders in his quest for the U.S Open; completing his runaway victory whilst relying on the all-round performance of FJ Sport, which features soft full-grain leathers and sleek performance-infused outsoles. Rory also chose the excellence of FootJoy's Pure Touch glove for its superb grip and feel, as he marched ahead of his nearest rivals. A host of fellow FootJoy ambassadors finished inside the top-ten, including 3 rd placed World #2 Lee Westwood who also wore the FJ Sport, and reigning Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen who wore the FJ ICON™.

McIlroy's seemingly effortless performance comes in just his 11 th major championship start and moves him to a career-high 4 th in the Official World Golf Rankings. Continuing to enhance his growing stature as one of the most exciting and promising stars in world golf, he set new 36-hole, 54-hole and 72-hole scoring records, whilst becoming the youngest U.S. Open winner since 1923.

Whether it is the all-round excellence of the FJ ICON™ , the reliability and consistent performance of the new DryJoys Tour™ , or the comfort of the FJ Sport, FootJoy remains the overwhelming favourite for golfers of all abilities around the world.
