Hasn't the weather been awful in the last week? My weekly game of golf with the ladies on Tuesday was washed out and instead I spent the day researching lovely places to jet off to this winter to find some sun! You'll see a few of my suggestions in the travel section at the end of my blog this week.

In the meantime, if you have a competition, match to play or even just a friendly game arranged and want to know what the weather is going to do, then you'll be interested to hear that FootJoy has just launched their own 'Weather Expert' microsite.

Powered by AccuWeather, the world's weather authority, the new FJ Weather Expert website provides live forecast updates for anywhere in the country, as well as over two million locations worldwide.

Simply input the postcode of your chosen golf course and hey presto you have an accurate forecast. In addition, the state-of-the-art software will match the day's weather conditions to the most suitable garments from the FJ Layering System and footwear, gloves and accessories.

The FJ Weather Expert site can be used on computers, tablet devices and smart phones, ensuring you will never be caught out by changing weather conditions!

A brand new golf show, organised and run by the already successful Golf Show Group, will be held in Manchester next year.

The show, which will be held at Manchester's EventCity, will take place from the 5th-7th of April 2013, and will be supported by new retail partner Express Golf. The show is the first of its kind in the North West and the organisers hope it will be as successful as its established London Golf Show which is now celebrating its eighth year.

The new Manchester Golf Show will take a similar format to its sister shows and has been designed to provide a truly interactive experience for golf enthusiasts of all ages with informed technical advice, PGA tuition and education, guest interviews, Driving bays, Custom fitting, Club testing, Custom build trucks, Simulators and the latest golf gadgets. However, the team hopes to give the show its own distinct feel with support from local clubs and brands giving the show its own unique identity.

Ian Mullins - Marketing Director of the Golf Show Group said, "Having joined the Golf Show Team last year, it was always our intention to take a refreshed look at the core demographics of golfers in the UK, where they live and what their spending habits were. Our instincts to launch a show in Manchester were soon confirmed when the research came back. With statistics showing there are in excess of 1m+ golfers within a 90 minute drive time of EventCity, it was a 'no brainer' that we should launch a show in Manchester."

Damian Benstead - Managing Director of the Golf Show Group said, "We are thrilled to be making this announcement, especially after the successful move of our London Show from the Excel Centre to Earls Court in 2011, and so quickly after our announcement that our London Show would be supported by talkSPORT. Manchester has been on our radar for a number of years and now the time is right for us to expand. EventCity will provide a fantastic backdrop for us to engage with local golfers and so far all our feedback suggests it will be supported by both exhibitors and golfers alike. We are also very excited to be working with fast growing internet based retailer Express Golf at this show."

Jordan Gibson - Managing Director of ExpressGolf added: "I am very proud to be partnering with such an established company like the Golf Show Group. We believe this will both raise the profile of golf as a sport in the region and the awareness of Express Golf as a brand that can bring golfers big savings on golf equipment and apparel without sacrificing a premium level of service. We look forward to seeing everyone at the show!"

EventCity is the second largest exhibition centre outside of London, situated in a prime spot right next to The Trafford Centre. The venues 28,000sqm of versatile exhibiting space has easy access routes from the motorway and boasts thousands of free car parking spaces, making it the perfect venue to host the first ever Golf Show in the region.

Sarah Mills, Director of Sales for EventCity said: "The Golf Show is a highly anticipated event for Manchester and we are thrilled to welcome such an established and successful brand to the City. We have been hungry to provide something of this nature to the regions mass golf-enthusiast audience and 2013 will mark the start of satisfying that appetite. We have every confidence it will be one of the most successful events on our calendar."

Tickets for The Manchester Golf Show will go on sale to the public early in the New Year.

Richard Flint, England Golf Development Manager, said: "It is great to see youngsters with such golfing talent taking part in our Skills Challenge National Final and this can be credited to the coaching they receive from their home clubs.

"The Skills Challenge continues to grow each year and England Golf would like to see even more clubs represented, giving their juniors an opportunity to take part and potentially qualify for the regional and national final".

Following this year's final, England Golf ran a fun, Ryder Cup Challenge for the participants, over five holes at the short game academy with Team USA winning the event.

Russell Lawes, FootJoy's European Marketing Manager, is delighted to have once again supported the initiative, "Grass roots golf is immensely important and we are committed to supporting the stars of tomorrow. This is a fantastic initiative that provides a fun and easy way for junior golfers to improve all aspects of their game in an enjoyable and relaxed environment.

"This year's event has once again proved extremely successful and we at FootJoy would like to congratulate not only just the winners but all junior golfers who participated in this event. We look forward to continue to support this event further next year."

Winning pair break deadlock at women's Murcia Challenge

Sussex golfers Jill Corbett and Jenny Davis emerged triumphant from a three-way tie to win the betterball event at the England Golf Women's Murcia Challenge in Spain.

Jill greeted the news with an ear-splitting shriek of delight and said: "I am ecstatic, this is brilliant, unbelievable."

The pair, from West Hove, were playing in the Challenge for the first time and captured their prize by the narrowest of margins, on count-back from two other partnerships.

At the end of the round at Mar Menor, they were tied on 40 stableford points with  Frances Payne and Kay Bone of Essex and with Lancashire's Lynne Perry and Irene Bowker. But Jill and Jenny came home in 21 points, compared to the 19 of the two other pairs.

"We were really steaming on the back nine," said Jill, who contributed a four-pointer with a birdie three on the 11th. The pair, who have a regular Sunday morning game at their club, combined well with equal contribution to the score.

The competition was played in very hot sunshine, but there was plenty of good scoring. Lynne and Irene set the pace early on with their 40 points but were eventually pushed into third place after Kay and Frances also pipped them on countback.

"We played well," said Frances, who contributed a four-pointer during the round. "We hit a similar ball and that helps us with clubbing."

They were in the last group on the course, alongside birthday girl Belinda Martin of Cheshire. "I've had a fab day," she said as she finished her round - and was greeted with a card signed by competitors, cupcakes and sparkling wine!

Accessorize your outfit with a Druh Ion bracelet

Druh has combined its flare for fashion with functionality to launch the Druh Ion Bracelet, an innovative product that uses negative ion therapeutic and magnetic technology to provide the wearer with a continuous stream of negative ions to counteract the damaging effects of positive ions - or Free Radicals - that are so prevalent in today's environment.

Using Max Bio-Science technology, the 'db' Ion Bracelet stimulates muscle activity and power output, provides a natural way to sustain high-intensity exercise over a longer period and accelerates muscle repair, regeneration and recovery thereby improving the performance of the wearer both mentally and physically.

Whilst the 'db' Ion Bracelet emits by far the highest constant flow of negative ions and magnetic strength of any of its competitors in this increasingly-popular niche market for negative ion/magnetic jewellery, it is also the most attractive, wearable and stylish range available.

Druh, with its eye on fashion, has designed a 'db' Ion Bracelet specially for men in masculine black and white whilst the ladies' models come in a deliciously pretty pink and fresh turquoise. The one-size fits all silicone straps in similar colourways are embellished with hand-polished stainless steel features and the instantly-recognisable 'db' detail in enamel.

"Whilst there are already a number of negative ion accessories on the market, Druh in conjunction with Max Bio-Science has achieved a far higher emission rate of negative ions than any of its competitors making it a much more effective proposition," comments Simon Hurd, a former Tour pro and founder of Druh Belts & Buckles.

"Moreover the 'db' Ion Bracelets are also stylish and extremely wearable, so I foresee them becoming a must-have accessory not only for golfers or indeed sportsmen but for anyone who would like to improve their quality of life and achieve their maximum potential."

All the 'db' Ion Bracelets possess therapeutic technologies that can be quantitatively verified by certified hand held testers and have received a Seal of Approval of product quality and efficacy from the Japan Association of Ion Research and Application (JAIRA).

The Druh Tour Collection is currently available priced at £112 shortly to be followed by the introduction of Druh Players' Collection competitively priced at £50. All 'db' Ion Bracelets come with a one-year warranty.

SUNICE Christine FlexVent Full Stretch Jacket
"Sunice by name and very, very nice to wear!"

Price: £164.99

They say: Inspired by the active golfer, the Tornado collection features the versatile, full stretch, highly breathable, and waterproof proprietary FlexVent fabric technology and is perfect for playing golf in a variety of weather conditions. It can easily cope with heavy rain - and comes with a 4 year waterproof guarantee - but because it is highly breathable it is also a comfortable wear on days when you're not sure what the skies will do. FlexVent fabric is also one of the most waterproof stretch fabrics on the market. It is incredibly flexible allowing real freedom to play. Add to this its uniquely soft hand feel and super quiet laminate and you have the perfect waterproof golf garment.

I say: I have to be honest and say that Sunice is not a waterproof brand that I have seen for sale in many golf clubs yet but from the moment I put this jacket on I loved it. The sizing is spot on which gives you a fantastic fit and you don't get any of that annoying excess material bagging and interfering with your swing or when you putt. The material is lovely and soft to touch and allows for a snug yet flattering fit that gives total swing freedom. There are so many clever hidden features that you probably won't spot when you first put the jacket on but when you get soaked in the rain you'll be thankful for things like the laser cut pockets that ensure not a single drop of rain can seep through the seams. Another one of the novel but very useful 'added extras' is the ball cleaner shammy pocket - now there's a clever idea! It comes in a choice of different colours but I think you'll agree the 'Diva' I chose is a great one for the Autumn. If you've never tried on a Sunice waterproof jacket before then I'd highly advise you to give one a try, they really are very good.
