Christina Smith, director of Golf2Golf.co.uk, offers her suggestions on choosing an outfit made from the right summer fabrics to stay cool on the course this summer...
Sort your wardrobe as the temperature soars!
After the disaster of last summer's weather and the shaky start to this years, who could have predicted the glorious weather we are now enjoying. Love or hate these scorching temperatures it just seems plain wrong to moan about them after we have waited so long for some sunshine! The best way to 'keep your cool' through this hot spell is to choose garments that are specially designed to tackle the job. One of the best fabrics available is 'Quick Dry'.
Now for the technical stuff... This fabric uses a unique cross-section fibre that allows moisture to be pulled from skin surface very quickly. This extends the wet surface area of fabric much wider than a general fibre; enabling moisture to air dry and evaporate very quickly, preventing clothes from sticking to the body.
As a result this fabric offers excellent ventillation and rapid moisture absorption which helps you feel cool whilst wearing it. It is very breathable and confortable, it dries quickly, retains its colour fastness when washed and resists fading from sunshine. Is there nothing this fabric cannot do?! Best of all, some of the main ladies golf apparel brands are using this fabric in their collections so it is available in a range of great fashionable designs and colours. The Daily Sports Summer collection for 2013 includes a range of quick dry polos starting at around £29 and available at pro shops nationwide and from online stockists.
Another great functional fabric are those that have UV protection built in. All of the Daily Sports tops come with UVA and UVB protection of UPF40+ as standard, which is great news when trying to stay safe in the sun.
I have just had a first hand report back from the Algarve that it is cloudy out there at the moment-so for once we can gloat over our great weather and enjoy planning without the usual need for your waterproof suit and 5 bases layers!
