BGL Golf and Disabled Golf Association welcome second annual Race to Burhill

April 1, 2014

BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator, has partnered with the Disabled Golf Association (DGA) for the second consecutive year to launch the 2014 Race to Burhill.

Inaugurated in 2013, the national tournament series takes place throughout the year at six of BGL Golf's 10 golf venues located throughout the UK, culminating in a national final at the company's headquarters, the prestigious Burhill Golf Club, Surrey.

As in 2013, three golfers from each preliminary stage will qualify for the national final, which is to be played on Friday, October 17, 2014, on Burhill's New Course, a regular venue for the EuroPro Tour.

The qualifying stages return to Birchwood Park Golf Centre, Dartford; Thornbury Golf Centre, Bristol; Hoebridge Golf Centre, Woking, and Ramsdale Golf Centre, Nottingham, while Wycombe Heights Golf Centre, High Wycombe, and Aldwickbury Park Golf Club, Harpenden, have been introduced for the 2014 series.

Graeme Robertson, DGA national events co-ordinator, said: "In 2013, the Race to Burhill helped grow our membership by approximately 15 per cent in 2013 and we now have more than 800 members.

"Thanks to a combination of fantastic disabled-friendly facilities and knowledgeable staff, who are always willing to go the extra mile, BGL Golf is the ideal partner for this nationwide tournament."

Colin Mayes, BGL chief executive, said: "We operate a number of initiatives to help make golf accessible to everyone. The Race to Burhill has helped raise the profile of disability golf and it was rewarding to welcome so many competitors in 2013. I look forward to seeing many more take part in 2014."

The 2014 Race to Burhill schedule:

Friday, March 14 - Birchwood Park Golf Centre, Dartford

Thursday, March 27 - Thornbury Golf Centre, Bristol

Wednesday, August 6 - Wycombe Heights Golf Centre, High Wycombe

Friday, September 5 - Aldwickbury Park Golf Club, Harpenden

Friday, September 26 - Hoebridge Golf Centre, Woking

Friday, October 3 - Ramsdale Park Golf Centre, Nottingham

Friday, October 17 - Burhill Golf Club (New Course)

The aim of the Disabled Golf Association is to bring together all disabled golfers, irrespective of gender, age or ability, and help them enjoy golf on a level playing field.
