Rockliffe Hall sponsors up-and-coming golf pro

June 25, 2014

Rockliffe Hall is sponsoring its youngest golf professional to date as part of its commitment to supporting golf stars of the future.

Twenty-four-year-old James Maw is the club's youngest pro, alongside Graeme Storm and Ellie Givens, and will represent Rockliffe Hall as he takes part in a number of tournaments around the UK and in Ireland this summer.

Originally from Sheffield and now based near Barnard Castle, James turned pro in 2010 and has played at high profile events including the PGA EuroPro season across the UK and also the Gecko Pro Tour in Spain where he beat a  number of ex-Tour players.

James's love of golf started when he was 10 and he represented Sheffield and Yorkshire for seven years, winning Yorkshire under-16s and the English Champions, taking him on to the European Champions in Turkey in 2008.

James counts names such as Yorkshire's Danny Willett, Rory McIlroy and Rockliffe Hall's own Graeme Storm amongst his golfing greats.

Speaking about his sponsorship agreement with Rockliffe Hall, James said: "Rockliffe Hall is an amazing course and has outstanding facilities for golfers of all abilities, ranging from amateur to professional. I've been lucky enough to play many courses and I don't think that there are many that can match this one. I am really looking forward to working with Rockliffe and representing them on my travels- it's great to be able to showcase a North East club on a national - and hopefully worldwide- scale."

Rockliffe Hall's head golf professional, Jon Stacey, added: "Here at Rockliffe Hall we're very proud to host major players- not least those joining us for the European Tour English Senior Open in August. But supporting the stars of the future is really important to us. James is at a very exciting time in his professional career and is clearly going to go on to great things so we're pleased to be able to support him as he does."

This year, the three-day European Tour English Senior Open takes place on the August Bank Holiday weekend, from Friday 22 nd until Sunday 24 th , with the pro-am tournament on Thursday 21 st . It follows the success of the 2013 tour, which attracted over 5000 spectators to Rockliffe Hall, and will be the biggest single sporting event in the North East in 2014.

It's expected that prestigious names such as Carl Mason, former Ryder Cup Captains Ian Woosnam and Mark James and Senior Tour favourites such as Constantino Rocca, Barry Lane, Des Smyth, Peter Fowler and Paul Wesselingh, who won last year's Order of Merit, will return to play the European Senior Tour English Senior Open, as well as 2013's English Senior Open winner Steen Tinning. Tickets can now be bought for just £10 (under 16s free) by visiting www.englishsenioropen.com or calling 01325 729999.

As well as pros Graeme Storm and James Maw, Rockliffe Hall's Ellie Givens will be representing the resort on the European Ladies Tour.
