Golfing Dads & Lads Head for Andalucia

September 11, 2016

A host of golfing dads & lads will head for the sunny climes of Andalucia, Spain, at the end of next month to compete in the grand final of the European Father & Son Golf Championships 2016.

Last-minute entries are still available for this annual tournament which will be played over the stunning championship courses at the Costa Ballena Ocean Club and the Sherry Golf Jerez in Cadiz from October 24th to 29th.

This popular event has not only proved to be a great bonding opportunity between fathers and sons but an excellent way to meet fellow golfers who come to play in the tournament from all over the world.

This year Father & Son Champions from America, Australia and Italy are flying in to contest the ninth staging of the event whilst in the past the tournament has attracted the likes of former Ryder Cup players Phillip Price and Paul Broadhurst, who have played alongside their sons.

Last year's thrilling final in the Scratch Trophy was eventually won by Britons Gary and Justin Milner who are based Germany, while three-time winners, David and George Mills from Sussex, won the Handicap Trophy.

As well as triggering the competitive juices, the Championships is regarded as a holiday event that is relaxed and fun for all the different generations that come together to golf.

T o add to the festival-like atmosphere, the competition is run along the lines of a professional golf tournament with an official announcer introducing the teams on the tee, scoreboards on the course, referees on hand to settle any rulings issues, caddies to carry the bags and help read putts, an official photographer, volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the event and even a few spectators to watch the action!

Competitors can also expect to see their names up in lights as top sports broadcaster, Sky Sports, will be on site to capture the action in order to produce a highlights show that will go to air shortly after the event.

As one of Europe's best family golf destinations, Andalucia is the perfect venue for the Championships thanks to the fact that the sun shines virtually every day of the year whilst the hotel host, the Elba Costa Ballena Beach & Thalasso Resort, is ideal for both parents and youngsters. The modern, 4* star hotel boasts two pools (one outdoor and one indoor), a Thalasso spa, a games room as well as a friendly bar with live music.

The golf meanwhile is played over two excellent championship courses. The Costa Ballena course, designed by Spanish golfing legend Jose Maria Olazabal, is a Par 72, 6,700 yard layout located next to the beach. Though the course is relatively flat, the small, undulating greens test the golfers' approach shot accuracy whilst the club also boasts one of Europe's largest and most complex practice facilities.

Located inland just outside the famous sherry city of Jerez, Sherry Golf is a gently undulating Par 72, 7,100-yard track set in rolling green countryside. It has previously held the Spanish Men's Amateur Championship so is a testy golf course that presents the competitors with a good challenge.

Whilst over 50 teams have already signed up, a few slots are still available and can be booked online at .

The 2016 package price starts at £699 per person and includes:
