Tom Watson wins Par-3 contest

April 05, 2018

Tom Watson won the exhibition with a 6 under 21, one shot better than Tommy Fleetwood and Thomas Pieters. The 68 year-old, playing with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, needed only 8 putts to win. The two-times Masters champion has overtaken Sam Snead as the oldest winner of the contest.

GT, Jack Nicklaus' grandson, who was caddying for the six-time Masters winner, made his first hole-in-one at No. 9.

Nicklaus played 4-under and Player 2-under.

"Watch out for the old guys," said Watson.  "You've got Mickelson (47) and you've got Tiger (42). Watch out. They could make some noise."

Tony Finau injured his left ankle celebrating a hole-in-one and popped it back into place.

After his drive had spun back into the 7th hole for an ace he started running toward the hole to celebrate, then turned back before landing awkwardly on his left ankle. He dropped to one knee and pushed the joint back into place.

Finau, who is ranked No. 34 in the world, withdrew from the event but stayed for the final two holes. He carefully walked to a golf cart and was driven away.
