Abbey Hill Golf Centre recognised for sustainable and ecological prowess

GEO, the Golf Environment Organisation, provides a credible framework for golf clubs to be awarded certified status for demonstrating leadership in sustainable and ecological measures as well as operating with sound business practice and making a difference in the community.

Following a recent verification visit, GEO Foundation confirmed that Abbey Hill Golf Centre has successfully achieved GEO Certified® status for its outstanding work to foster nature, conserve resources and support the community.

Commenting on the certification, General Manager, Russell Heady, said: “We’re thrilled with this achievement, maintaining our ongoing GEO certification is a very important part of our environmental strategy so I’d like to congratulate the whole team here at Abbey Hill and especially the greenkeepers, who’ve done an outstanding job.

“This is just another step in our commitment to sustainability and we will continue to adapt in finding new ways to operate more efficiently all of the time.”

Tony Hanson, a GEO accredited Independent Verifier, commented in the report: “The management at Abbey Hill has continued the process of improving environmental management with diverse projects including habitat creation, wildflower meadows, open water ecology management, LED lighting installation and plans for a new reservoir to improve water resilience.

“The enthusiasm shown leaves me with confidence that they will continue their environmental journey with a determination to identify new and innovative projects.”

Abbey Hill offers first-class facilities suitable for golfers of all experience levels with a choice of two golf courses, an 18-hole adventure golf course, a 22-bay floodlit driving range and a well-stocked golf shop, as well as a relaxing Cafe Bar & Grill.
