“I was really comfortable off the tee with driver, which had nice a reset yesterday on the range. I really felt I drove it nicely out there today."

The Austrian fired the lowest round of his career with a 61 on day two at The Renaissance Club and he followed that with a 65 on Saturday to get to 20 under par in the third Rolex Series event of the season.

“Hit a lot of fairways and just could build off that. Other than that, I just tried to stick with it, what we were doing, and not get ahead of myself. You know, there's still a lot of golf to be played.

“I'm quite flat with my heart rate. I'm just enjoying being out there and not looking ahead too far. Playing with Nino (Bertasio) out there today, he had a great start and I just tried to plug away and match him to a degree. I just caught a bit of fire before the turn.”

That was the lowest 54 hole score in the history of this event and the lowest of the 2019 Race to Dubai as Wiesberger chases his sixth European Tour title and second of the season after his victory at Made in Denmark in May.

South African Erik van Rooyen carded a round of 67 to sit at 18 under par, two shots ahead of Italian Nino Bertasio and Frenchman Romain Langasque.

“I've got off to hot starts the last few days, so just had to relax and stay patient and know that there's 18 holes to play," said van Rooyen.

“I've got a lot of experience now. 18 holes to go, there's a lot of guys that can still play well. We've seen some low scores these three days, 61s, 62s, you name it. Bernd and I are both playing well but there's a lot of guys who can still do it. Tomorrow I'll go hit one shot at a time and make as many birdies as I can.”

English pair Lee Slattery and Matt Wallace join Welshman Jamie Donaldson, Italian Lorenzo Gagli and Adrian Otaegui of Spain in a tie for fifth place at 15 under par, with the 2016 Open Champion Henrik Stenson, Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick and Italian Andrea Pavan a shot further back.

There will be another trophy up for grabs on Sunday as the inaugural EDGA Scottish Open concludes before the final round of the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open.

George Groves – the current number one in the World Rankings for Golfers with Disability - and fellow Englishman Mike Browne share the lead going into the final round of the new 36 hole event for Golfers with Disability, with the ten players tackling the same layout as the European Tour field.
