October 29 - November 01
Port Royal Golf Course, Southampton, Bermuda
$4,000,000
Round 1, Round 2, Round 3

Brian Gay was 4-under entering the back nine and made up three shots for a final round 7-under 64 to set up a playoff against Wyndham Clark at Port Royal before a 12-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole earned him the title.

Not one of golf's longer hitters, Gay has not been on great form since the Tour resumed following the pandemic hiatus, and particularly struggled with his putting. In spite of this he made nine birdies over his last 14 holes to win his fifth PGA title, the first in almost eight years.

Gay, who will be eligible to join the PGA Tour Champions in just over a year, is the oldest Tour winner since Davis Love III at the 2015 Wyndham Championship and is now exempt through August 2023 on the PGA.

โ€œI did wonder. I've struggled the last few months and been quite miserable on the golf course at times. Everyone around me kept telling me: โ€˜You're still going to win. My wife says: โ€˜You're still going to win; do it again.'

โ€œJust kept at it. Crazy game. You never know what's going to happen,โ€ he summed up. โ€œI've always known I have the game to compete. It's easy to doubt yourself. The players are so good and so young. A lot of them are my daughter's age.โ€

Clark made birdie on seven of his opening holes to take a three shot lead. He did not miss a single green until he hit a bunker on the par-3 16th and bogeyed the hole to tie for the lead. He missed a birdie putt on the 17th, then another on the 18th leading to the playoff where he again missed his 7-foot putt on the 18th.

โ€œI'm pretty bummed. I knew I had a one-shot lead. I thought I made that putt on 17 and same on 18. I had chances, I just didn't capitalize.โ€

Ollie Schniederjans, playing on a sponsor exemption, came in third with a 66.

Will Zalatoris earned a special temporary membership with his T16 finish on Sunday. The current Korn Ferry Tour points leader will now be afforded unlimited sponsor exemptions for the rest of the season.

โ€œYeah, it's exciting,โ€ said Zalatoris. โ€œI thought I had a pretty good chance of it in Vegas. Obviously a couple points short. I'm glad I got it done in one week. If I kind of let that wander a little bit, it wouldn't have been fun.โ€
