Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama both fired 69s and are tied for the lead after another tough day at Olympia Fields, the only players under par for the tournament.

Patrick Cantlay, who led with Rory McIlroy heading into the weekend, only hit five fairways and failed to make a birdie on Saturday to finish with a 75 that might cost him a spot in the Tour Championship.

McIlroy, who has been distracted by the impending birth of his first child, fired a 73, three shots back from the leaders.

โ€œI'm just waiting for a phone call,โ€ he said. โ€œI was waiting for a phone call last week and it didn't come, and then Harry [Diamond, his caddie] has been keeping his phone in his pocket just to make sure, but nothing as of yet.

โ€œI'm going to play in many more Tour Championships, and it's only going to be the birth of your first child once. That trumps anything else.โ€

The low round of the day went to Jon Rahm, who played a 66 but could have gone one lower if he had remembered to set a marker down when he picked up his ball on the fifth.

''I was thinking of somebody else or something elseโ€ฆ and yeah, I just picked up the ball without marking it, simple as that. I can't really give you an explanation. It's one of those things that happen in golf. Never thought it would in my professional career, but here we are.''
