Boni celebrates second Italian Club's 2018 GEO Certification

November 26, 2018

Golf Business International member Stefano Boni has successfully guided a second Italian club to achieve Golf Environment Organization (GEO) certification.

As an ecology officer for the Italian Golf Federation, part of Boni's remit is to assist in every stage of the process: initial assessment, data collection, on-course subscription and completion, and the final application.

And the latest club to benefit from his nine years of experience as environmental advisor was Bogogno Golf Resort , a 36-hole facility and European Tour Qualifying School venue.

Bogogno is the second Italian facility Boni has assisted in obtaining GEO certification this year, following the earlier approval awarded to Gardagolf Country Club , venue of this year's Italian Open and recipient of the 2018 IAGTO Sustainability Award.

Boni explained: "When a golf club aims to achieve the GEO certification, together with the staff, I conduct an initial assessment in order to determine if improvement is needed in some specific areas, and what actions are required. When the club is ready I help it with the collection of key data and evidence and their correct insertion inside the On Course program, the hottest tool of sustainable golf.

"During the final stages I help clubs and GEO verifiers to collect additional information that can be helpful for the final decision. I am sure the certification of these two high-profile clubs will inspire many other clubs to do the same."

GEO Certified® has been developed specifically for three key areas of the industry:  golf facility operations, golf development and renovation, and golf tournaments. The distinction serves as a credible platform for communications of real outcomes and continual improvement, around nature, resources, and the community.

Formed originally as the Golf Consultants Association in 1999, Golf Business International, which rebranded in 2017 and is now a ‘preferred partner' of England Golf, is unique in its ability to make available a team of highly respected and experienced golf industry professionals to deal with any aspect of the business of golf through from conception to end.
