Round 4 - Alexander Levy wins in a playoff

May 1, 2017

Alexander Levy of France beat Dylan Frittelli in a playoff Sunday to win the China Open.

The 2014 champion began the final round seven shots behind overnight leader Frittelli. Levy birdied the par-5 18th for 67 to finish on 17-under 271 and force a playoff with the South African.

Frittelli sent his second shot on the last hole over the hospitality tent and had to settle for par in a 2-over 74 and a trip back up the 18th.

Levy then found the fairway off the tee while Frittelli sent his drive into a bunker. But after the Frenchman ended in sand with his second, both men were left with birdie putts.

Frittelli missed his attempt and Levy rolled home from 15 feet to claim victory.

''That's an amazing feeling to be back in the winner's circle,'' Levy said. ''This means a lot because it was the first tournament I won on the European Tour.''

Pablo Larrazabal began the day as Frittelli's closest challenger and the Spaniard closed with a 72 to finish third at 16 under, a shot clear of Austrian Bernd Wiesberger and England's Chris Wood.

Wiesberger - last week's winner after a playoff in Shenzhen - carded a closing 67 while Wood shot 68.

Round 3 - Dylan Frittelli vaults in to lead

April 30, 2017

Dylan Frittelli of South Africa moved three strokes clear of the China Open field after carding an 8-under-par 64 in the third round on Saturday.

Frittelli birdied eight holes in a bogey-free round at the Topwin Golf and Country Club to get to 19 under.

Pablo Larrazabal of Spain was his nearest challenger at 16 under after a 70.

Frittelli birdied the 15th to go two shots in front. When he made par from the sand on the 16th and Larrazabal bogeyed, the lead turned into three. Both of them birdied their last hole.

Alexander Levy of France, the 2014 champion, was third at 12 under after a 71.

Frittelli, who is bidding for his first European Tour title, tied the course record of 63 on Friday, a day after Levy. Frittelli tied for fifth in Shenzhen last weekend.

English golfer Chris Wood scored 65 with just a single bogey to get to 11 under, a shot clear of South Korea's Moon Kyong-jun and Austria's Bernd Wiesberger.

Home favorites Li Haotong and Yi Cao were at 9 under alongside South African George Coetzee and South Korea's Lee Soo-min.

Round 2 - Pablo Larrazabal leads at halfway

April 29, 2017

Pablo Larrazabal fired a 6 under 66 on Friday to take a three-stroke lead halfway through the China Open.

Larrazabal, who started the second round one stroke off the lead, offset a lone bogey with five birdies and an eagle on the par-4 11th to finish at 14 under.

Dylan Frittelli had the lowest score of the round with a 63 and was tied for second at 11 under with overnight leader Alexander Levy, who shot a 70 in the second round.

Lee Soo-min was four shots off the pace in fourth place after a 65.

Thomas Detry (66) and George Coetzee (69) shared fifth spot.

Bernd Wiesberger, who won last week's Shenzhen International, was in the large group tied for eighth at 7 under.

Round 1 - Alexander Levy leads with opening 63

April 28, 2017

Alexander Levy shot a 9-under 63 on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the China Open.

The Frenchman, who won the China Open in 2014, carded nine birdies in a bogey-free round at the Topwin Golf and Country Club to finish one stroke ahead of Pablo Larrazabal.

Levy is looking to become the first golfer to win the Volvo China Open twice and take his tally of European Tour wins to four.

''I played great,'' he said. ''I hit 18 greens today and had some good putts for birdie, two or three long putts that helped.''

Peter Hanson and James Morrison (both 67) were tied at 5 under with Raphael Jacquelin, Dean Burmester and George Coetzee.

Jorge Campillo and Yi Cao were among a group of golfers a further shot back.

Bernd Wiesberger, who won last week's Shenzhen International, was six strokes off the pace after a 69, tied at 3 under with defending champion Li Haotong.

Anthony Wall - making his 500th European Tour start this week - shot a 1-under 71, while Ryan Dillon (77) recorded the 14th hole-in-one of the season as he holed a 7 iron from 180 yards on the 13th.
