Hudson Swafford was four shots clear on the 13th fairway in the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship on Sunday. He double bogeyed then dropped another shot on the 16th and was tied for the lead with Mackenzie Hughes and Tyler McCumber.

He hit the shot of the tournament to 10 feet for birdie on the par-3 17th and regained the lead over McCumber.

"It was kind of like the shot I hit on 17 at PGA West when I won," said Swafford. "I was just like, 'Man, you've got to step up and just hit a good, flighted 6-iron.' I've done it 100,000 times, I love hitting that golf shot. And man, it was a good one and an even better putt."

Par was enough on 18 for him to avoid a playoff with McCumber and he delivered to close with a 69, 18-under for the tournament.

This is Swafford's second Tour victory following the Desert Classic in January 2017. Since then he's missed tournaments after a rib injury then foot surgery last summer. He was playing on a medical extension but is now fully exempt on the PGA Tour through 2022-23. He will also be heading to next year's Masters and PGA Championship, as well as the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.

"It's amazing. Words can't really describe it. Last two years have been tough. Not family-wise, though, me and my wife had our first son. Life's great, and golf is really hard. To do this, it's fun. This is why I get up and grind."

McCumber went bogey-free in the final round and finished in second place, his best career finish on Tour. Overnight leader Adam Long closed with a 75 for fifth place.
