Major champion Martin Kaymer, four-time European Tour winner Matt Wallace and five-time European Tour winner Alex Levy complete an exciting line up of stars who will go head to head at Liverpool Waters’ Princes Dock on Tuesday May 7 as the innovative Hero Challenge returns for the first edition of the 2019 season.
Fans can secure FREE tickets at LostInTV.com to watch the trio, as well as Tommy Fleetwood, the 2017 Race to Dubai Champion and host of the 2019 Betfred British Masters, Ladies European Tour and LPGA star Charley Hull and Stephen Gallacher, who won his fourth European Tour title at the Hero Indian Open in March, for an action-packed evening of golf in the heart of Liverpool’s incredible World Heritage Site waterfront.
Taking place during the week of the Betfred British Masters at Hillside Golf Club, the fast and fun event also starts an exciting evening of sport in the city on Tuesday May 7, as Liverpool take on Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield later that evening.
Former World Number One Kaymer, who counts the 2010 PGA Championship and 2014 U.S. Open amongst his 11 European Tour titles, made his Hero Challenge debut ahead of the British Masters two years ago. He said: “The Hero Challenge is a really fun way to start tournament week, and I can’t wait to get involved again. It seems like it will be a big evening of sport in Liverpool so hopefully we can get things started with an entertaining show in the centre of the city.”
Englishman Wallace won three times on the European Tour - starting with the Hero Indian Open - in an incredible 2018 season. He said: “I took part in the Hero Challenge in London last year and really enjoyed the energy of playing golf in the centre of a city, so it will be great to tee it up in another iconic location. I’m sure it will be very competitive and we’ll all be determined to get our hands on a trophy we get to Hillside.”
Frenchman Levy won the inaugural Hero Challenge at The Grove in 2016 and is looking forward to having another shot at the innovative event.
“The Hero Challenge was great fun when I played at The Grove a few years ago, so I think it will be really cool to do it again in the middle of a city,” said Levy. “Hopefully the fans will enjoy it and hopefully I will win again!”
Hero MotoCorp Ltd - the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters – has reaffirmed its commitment to innovation on the European Tour by continuing to support the Hero Challenge, which boasts past winners including 2018 Masters Tournament champion Patrick Reed of the United States, Swedish Major winner Henrik Stenson, and former World Number One Lee Westwood of England.
Owned by regeneration business Peel Land and Property, Liverpool Waters is a £5 billion waterfront development scheme which is transforming the city’s north docks, including development of numerous residential, commercial and leisure facilities across five distinct neighbourhoods. The stunning location takes on hosting duties as the Hero Challenge comes full circle, after a successful debut at the British Masters in 2016.
The Hero Challenge will take place at 6.30 pm on Tuesday May 7 and will be shown live across the European Tour’s digital platforms. Free tickets to be there in person are available at LostInTV.com
Fleetwood is following in the footsteps of his fellow countrymen Ian Poulter, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Justin Rose when he hosts the Betfred British Masters in his native Merseyside at Hillside Golf Club, part of the glorious stretch of terrain recognised as England’s Golf Coast, from May 9-12.
