March 28-31
Aviara Golf Club, Carlsbad, California
$1,800,000
Round 1, Round 3, Round 4

World number one Sung-hyun Park fired a six-under par 66 on Friday to seize a share of the halfway lead alongside Thailand's Thidapa Suwannapura at the LPGA Kia Classic.

South Korea's Park teed off on 10 at Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad, California, and after two birdies in her first nine holes made a big move with four birdies in the space of five holes after the turn.

"Overall, I'm pretty happy with my play today, especially the bogey-free two days in a row," said Park, a winner in Singapore last month. "The course is not easy actually. The fairways are pretty narrow and the greens are very soft and line is pretty hard to see for me."

Suwannapura had three birdies on each side to also sign for a 66 and join Park on 10-under 134.

"Those greens are not that easy," said Suwannapura, who is also bogey-free over the first two rounds. "Just play solid and hopefully keep making birdies."

The leading duo were one stroke in front of overnight leader Chella Choi, who carded a 70, and fellow South Korean Inbee Park, who posted a 67.

Park has never missed the cut in all 10 Kia Classics dating back to the inaugural tournament in 2010, yet even the Hall of Famer, famous for her hot putter, found her patience been tested on Aviara's Poa Annua greens.

โ€œThis week my putter seems to be working a little bit better and [it's been] really good actually,โ€ said Park, who needed 28 putts in her lap around Aviara. โ€œThese greens are really tough to read and you have to be really patient. That's what I try to do, and it has been working very well.โ€

โ€œOverall I had some good results in San Diego/Carlsbad, so I'm really happy to be coming to California and playing,โ€ said Park, whose best Kia Classic finishes are runner-up showings in 2010 and 2016. โ€œIt's always really fun to play over here. Nice weather and such a nice atmosphere. I really enjoyed my time with my dog on the beach in off times, so, yeah, it's been a thrill.โ€
