Emiliano Grillo made nine birdies and a bogey for an 8-under 63 to take a four-shot lead into the weekend at Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Heavy rain in the morning delayed the second round and play was halted due to darkness before the round could be completed but no one was close enough to overtake Grillo at 13-under. In 136 starts on Tour it is only the fifth time he will take the lead or a share of the lead after any round.

Tony Finau fired a 66 to tie for second place at 9-under alongside Tom Hoge. Finau has only found 53% of the fairways over the first two rounds, and just 61% of the greens, but he has a new putter in the bag and knows how to use it. He one-putted six consecutive holes and is tied for third in the field in putts per green in regulation.

“I've got to take care of it off the tee and hit the fairways," he said, "and I think if I do that, my numbers will start to go up.”

“I feel good, confident. My game feels good. My body feels good. Anytime I'm putting it nicely, I think that's always a great feeling. You have to putt it well to win, and I know that I've definitely had my fair share of putts go in so far.”

Overnight leader Russell Knox shot a 69 to start the weekend in fourth place at 8-under.

Local favourite Carlos Ortiz, who earned his first PGA title last month in Houston, shot a 68 and is tied in ninth place at 6-under.

Rickie Fowler closed with a 1-over 72 and looks to miss the cut by one shot. He will likely fall out of the World top-50 for the first time since his first full year on Tour in 2010.

Brooks Koepka fired another 71 to finish even-par and will likely also miss the cut.
