John and Little John Daly birdied the final six-holes for a 13-under 59 and a one-stroke lead Saturday in the PNC Father-Son Challenge.

The Dalys played the back nine in 8-under 28 in occasional rain at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Grande Lakes. Little John is 15.

''It was just one of those days,'' John Daly said. ''We hit pretty much every fairway. We didn't get ourselves in any trouble. After the third hole, Little John was putting good and he said, 'I should go first to give him the line.' I just made everything. It was a lot of fun''.

They tied the tournament course record with the 59. Team Daly's 59 marks the 10th time in tournament history (21 events) that a team has broken 60 in the opening round, but just the fifth time a sub-60 score has led.

David and Carter Toms were second in the scramble event, and Jack and grandson GT Nicklaus matched Stewart and Connor Cink at 61.

Team Nicklaus' 61 marks their lowest 18-hole score in this event since 1999 (59/R2).

Bernhard Langer, partnering daughter Jackie Langer John, is attempting to become the first to win with a record third different child. All multiple winners of the tournament have done so with more than one child.

Stewart Cink (2013) and Jack Nicklaus (1999), both T3 at 11-under and two off the lead, seek to join the list of players with multiple PNC Father Son Challenge victories: Raymond Floyd (5) – 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001; Larry Nelson (3) – 2004, 2007, 2008; Bernhard Langer (3) – 2005, 2006, 2014.First-Round Leaderboard
