June 27-30
Detroit Golf Club, Detroit, Michigan
$7,300,000
Round 1, Round 2, Round 3

An emotional Nate Lashley held his nerve to secure his first PGA tour title at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.

The 36-year-old, who was hit by tragedy early in his career when his parents and girlfriend were killed in a place crash on the way home from watching him play in a tournament in 2004, shot a final-round 70 to preserve his six-shot overnight lead.

Lashley, who walked away from the game in the immediate aftermath, told Sky Sports: "It's just surreal, I don't know what else to say. I'm just a little emotional right now and just really happy.

"There's no feeling like it, really. It hasn't hit me yet, I'm sure at some point tonight it's going to hit me. It's just a little surreal. It feels like a dream right now."

Lashley's day started well with birdies and the first and third, but bogeys at the sixth and ninth saw him reach the turn in 36.

However, the American - last man to make it into the field - steadied himself and picked up two more shots on the way back in to finish with a 25-under-par total of 263 to claim the title and secure places at the Open, the Masters and the US PGA Championship.

He said: "To get into three majors, the Masters, the Openโ€ฆ It's always a dream, it's something I've always wanted to do, wanted to be able to.

"I wanted to be out here and compete on the highest level, and I'm here now and I couldn't be more happy and thrilled."

A third successive round of 67 saw compatriot Doc Redman claim second place on 19 under par, with Slovakian Rory Sabbatini and American Wes Roach both shooting 68 to share third place a shot further back.
