Dustin Johnson fired a 3-under 67 at Shinecock Hills on Friday to take a four-stroke lead into the weekend and is the only player under par after 36 holes.

Charley Hoffman and Scott Piercy are tied for second place at even par.

``Dustin was in complete control of what he was doing,`` said playing partner Tiger Woods. ``He's hitting the ball so flush and so solid. I know it's windy. It's blustery. It was raining early. But he's hitting right through it.``

Ian Poulter, who shared the overnight lead with Johnson, reduced Johnson's lead to one with three birdies over a four hole span but a triple-bogey 7 at the 8th and a bogey at the 9th, his last two holes, saw him drop down to T4 with Brooks Koepka, Tommy Fleetwood and Henrik Stenson.

Koepka and Fleetwood carded four-under 66s, the best rounds of the tournament so far.

Tiger Woods failed to make the cut, the first US Open cut he has missed since 2015, after carding a 2-over 72 following his first round 78.

``I don't think you can be too happy and too excited about 10 over par,`` said Woods.

Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm also missed.
