William Swans in at Golf Business Interntational

December 17, 2018

Golf architect William Swan has become the second generation of his family to join the non-profit Golf Business International - the group of highly-respected and experienced independent golf industry experts.

Swan, a director of Suffolk-based Swan Golf Designs , follows in the footsteps of his father, Howard, who has been a member since the group was inaugurated, in 1999, as the Golf Consultants Association, and has spent the last five years as chairman.

William is the third generation of the family to carry on the practice of golf course architect after Howard, and Alex, Howard's father, who was in partnership with Sir Henry Cotton. The family company - which was spawned by the Swan-Cotton partnership - now has more than 60 years of golf course design experience to the name.

William said: "I've played golf since a young age and love the game. It's a great sport but more importantly it's a great pastime. Modern life lived in an increasingly digital world has many positives, but golf is a game which offers the chance to spend time in the real world, with real people, making real connections through having face-to-face conversations.

"The health and social benefits of the game are only now becoming full understood and I look forward to contributing to Golf Business International's advocacy of such issues."

William Swan has been involved in a number of recent golf design and renovation projects including those at Huddersfield, Wellingborough, and Bangor golf clubs, as well as the much-acclaimed Royal Bled, in Slovenia.

Formed originally as the Golf Consultants Association in 1999, Golf Business International, which rebranded in 2017 and is now a ‘preferred partner' of England Golf, is unique in its ability to make available a team of highly respected and experienced golf industry professionals to deal with any aspect of the business of golf through from conception to end.
