{"id":1250944,"date":"2024-04-29T02:41:59","date_gmt":"2024-04-29T02:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/golftoday.co.uk\/?p=1250944"},"modified":"2024-04-29T07:35:41","modified_gmt":"2024-04-29T07:35:41","slug":"zurich-classic-of-new-orleans-2024-r4-rory-mcilroy-shane-lowry-win-after-play-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/golftoday.co.uk\/zurich-classic-of-new-orleans-2024-r4-rory-mcilroy-shane-lowry-win-after-play-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Rory McIlroy &amp; Shane Lowry win Zurich Classic after play-off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry came through a play-off to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the fourth round, playing Foursomes, Lowry made the most of a superb chip on to the 18th green by McIlroy by sinking a birdie putt, extending the contest as they joined Martin Trainer and Chad Ramey on 25-under.<\/p>\n<p>Trainer and Ramey\u00a0 had been among the early starters, powering 26 places up the leaderboard with a round of 63 that included seven birdies on the back nine, but the near three-hour wait to see if their score would hold up saw them come into the play-off looking rusty.<\/p>\n<p>And after Ramey pulled his second shot left and on to a road, Trainer came up short in his effort to reach the green.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Highlights | Round 4 | Zurich Classic | 2024\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VFlzFlcLo0M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That gave Ryder Cup team-mates McIlroy and Lowry the advantage despite the latter having found sand with his second shot, but after Lowry missed a putt for par, they needed Trainer to narrowly miss his own putt to confirm their win \u2013 McIlroy\u2019s 25th career PGA Tour win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s absolutely amazing,\u201d McIlroy said on CBS Sports. \u201cWe\u2019ve had an awesome week here in New Orleans. The crowds have been absolutely amazing, to get the support we\u2019ve had out there. We\u2019ve had so much fun while doing it and it\u2019s just a bonus to win at the end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt couldn\u2019t be better than to do it with this man alongside me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lowry added: \u201cIt\u2019s great. It felt much-needed.
