{"id":1252533,"date":"2024-07-12T18:46:11","date_gmt":"2024-07-12T18:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/golftoday.co.uk\/?p=1252533"},"modified":"2024-09-23T07:19:21","modified_gmt":"2024-09-23T07:19:21","slug":"genesis-scottish-open-2024-r2-ludvig-aberg-takes-halfway-lead-at-scottish-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/golftoday.co.uk\/genesis-scottish-open-2024-r2-ludvig-aberg-takes-halfway-lead-at-scottish-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Ludvig \u00c5berg takes halfway lead at Scottish Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A year after missing the cut in the Genesis Scottish Open in just his fifth start as a professional, Ludvig \u00c5berg cruised into the halfway lead in the \u00a37million event in pursuit of the biggest win of his young career.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old Swede exploited ideal conditions at the Renaissance Club to card a second successive 64 for a halfway total of 12 under par, one shot ahead of France\u2019s Antoine Rozner.<\/p>\n<p>Rozner, who has yet to drop a shot this week, added a 64 to his opening 65 while Italy\u2019s Matteo Manassero and South Korea\u2019s Sungjae Im were on 10 under after rounds of 63 and 67 respectively.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Highlights | Round 2 | Genesis Scottish Open | 2024\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hLEP8sgLayI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Defending champion <a href=\"https:\/\/golftoday.co.uk\/rory-mcilroys-quest-to-end-decade-long-wait-for-major-win-continues-at-the-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Rory McIlroy<\/span><\/strong><\/a> lies three shots off the lead after a 66, with Spain\u2019s Alejandro del Rey \u2013 a late call-up after the withdrawal of Sebastian S\u00f6derberg \u2013 also on nine under after starting his second round of 62 with six straight birdies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been very nice,\u201d \u00c5berg said with typical understatement. \u201cI felt like we\u2019ve had a very good game plan and are executing the shots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try not to force anything. We try to have a lot of acceptance when we play and make sure that we put good swings on it, and give ourselves plenty of chances, which I felt like we\u2019ve done very well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s, what, 150-something players in the field? Editorial use only, no commercial use without prior consent from rights holder.\" \/><figcaption>Ludvig \u00c5berg set the clubhouse target after back-to-back 64s in the Genesis Scottish Open (Malcolm Mackenzie\/PA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!-- EMBED END Image --><\/p>\n<p>He partnered Viktor Hovland to a record 9&amp;7 thrashing of world number one Scottie Scheffler and five-time major winner Brooks Koepka in Rome as Europe regained the trophy, and two months later won his first title on the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c5berg then finished runner-up to Scheffler in April\u2019s Masters on his major championship debut and held the halfway lead in last month\u2019s US Open, but is determined not to let success go to his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t describe myself as a superstar. All I try to do is play good golf,\u201d \u00c5berg said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether these last 12 months have changed my life on the golf course, it hasn\u2019t really changed my life off the golf course.
