The Ryder Cup

Created by English seed merchant and keen amateur golfer Samuel Ryder, the first match was played in Massachussets in 1927, when America beat Great Britain & Ireland 9½ – 2½. They would go on to dominate the matches for over 50 years, until broader-based European teams finally began to provide strong opposition. After 41 matches, the score to date is USA 26, GB&I/Europe 13, with 2 ties.
