Tom Hoge opened with a flawless, 8-under 63 featuring a pair of eagles to take a one shot lead in the Shriners Children’s Open.<\/p>\n

\u201cA little bit unexpected because I had a few weeks off and took a little time away from golf, so I didn’t know where things would stand coming out today.<\/p>\n

“I made a nice putt on 6, I don’t know what it was, 30, 40 feet, and then holed the wedge on 7. That really jump started things.<\/p>\n

“It was an interesting day. I feel like I missed some very makable birdie putts, but I holed some real nice long ones for eagle on 16 and some other long ones.<\/p>\n

“Certainly happy with the score, but I’ve got to make a lot of birdies the next few days.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fellow American Maverick McNealy carded a bogey-free 64 for a share of second place alongside South Korean Si Woo Kim.<\/p>\n

Defending champion Sungjae Im of of South Korea shot a bogey-free 65 for a share of fourth place alongside countryman S.<\/a>H. Kim as well as Americans Sam Ryder, Keith Mitchell, Will Gordon and Tyler Duncan and Belgian Thomas Detry.<\/p>\n

Play was suspended due to darkness with just a few players left on the course.<\/p>\n
