{"id":623018,"date":"2023-02-01T20:08:11","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T20:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/golftoday.co.uk\/jordan-spieth-wants-pebble-beach-to-become-one-of-pga-tours-elevated-events\/"},"modified":"2023-11-29T18:57:28","modified_gmt":"2023-11-29T18:57:28","slug":"jordan-spieth-wants-pebble-beach-to-become-one-of-pga-tours-elevated-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/golftoday.co.uk\/jordan-spieth-wants-pebble-beach-to-become-one-of-pga-tours-elevated-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Jordan Spieth wants Pebble Beach to become one of PGA Tour\u2019s elevated events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former champion Jordan Spieth has pledged to fight for the AT&amp;T Pebble\u00a0Beach Pro-Am to become one of the PGA Tour\u2019s elevated events.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the response to the threat posed by LIV Golf, the PGA Tour\u2019s top players have committed to playing against each other at least 20 times a year.<\/p>\n<p>The 20 events are made up of the four majors, the Players Championship, 12 elevated tournaments and three other events chosen by the players.<\/p>\n<p>The AT&amp;T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is not among those events in 2023 but precedes two which are \u2013 the WM Phoenix Open and Genesis Invitational \u2013 and that has contributed to a relatively weak field in California.<\/p>\n<p><!-- EMBED START Twitter --><\/p>\n<figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"525\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Views from the 18th &#x1f30a; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/itjGlQu4pj\">pic.twitter.com\/itjGlQu4pj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PGATOUR\/status\/1620816157954699265?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 1, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/figure>\n<p><!-- EMBED END Twitter --><\/p>\n<p>US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick (10th) is the only player in the world\u2019s top 10 in a field which includes just seven of the top 50.<\/p>\n<p>Spieth, who is ranked 16th, said he was not surprised the event had missed out this year, but added in his pre-tournament press conference: \u201cI would fight for an opportunity for this to be an elevated event in future years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure if the format would have to change or what would have to happen, but I really think the opportunity to get the top 50, 60, 70 players in the world playing Pebble Beach and that being a PGA Tour event would be as successful as when the US Open\u2019s held here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that trying to go to the world\u2019s best courses, when you have the opportunity, would be advantageous for the PGA Tour.
