Peter O’Malley is hoping to celebrate his four-year Staysure Tour anniversary in style by lifting the Swiss Seniors Open trophy after taking the lead on Day Two with a bogey-free 65 at Golf Club Bad Ragaz.
The Australian made his Staysure Tour debut in the 2015 Swiss Seniors Open and will go in search of his maiden title on Sunday, taking a one-stroke advantage into the final round having reached nine under par for the week. He leads by one from Andrew Oldcorn, who also posted a round of 65 on Day Two to sit second on eight under par.
O’Malley is without a win since 2010 and he would love to break that duck at the place where it all started on the over-50s circuit after today carding his lowest round since 2017 – on the final day of the Swiss Seniors Open.
“I played well on both days really, I just had one bogey yesterday and no bogeys today, with ten birdies across the two days,” he said.

Peter O'Malley will go in search of his maiden Staysure Tour title tomorrow, at the place where it all started
“It’s a good course for me but I just hit it on the fairways, hit it on the greens and made a few putts. It’s such a great place and I just played solid.
“I got off to a good start yesterday and made a couple of good putts but I haven’t really made anything of length since then. I’ve just been playing solidly but I missed a couple of greens and made some good up and downs, so that was pleasing.
“I love playing here and I’ve been in the last group a couple of times before and it hasn’t worked out but tomorrow we’ll see how we can pull it off.”
The 54-year-old’s bogey-free 65 came on the day of his father’s birthday and he is now focused on going low tomorrow to clinch an emotional first Staysure Tour victory.
“My last win on the tour in Australia was 2010 and I haven’t won on the Staysure Tour so I’m looking forward to the final day and hopefully we can pull it off,” he said.
“It’s been a while since I’ve won a tournament but I’ve been playing tournaments in Australia on the Legends Tour down there and played well so I’ll just go out there tomorrow and hopefully play well.
“It would be great to win on any tour but particularly the Staysure Tour. This was my first event when I turned 50 so it would be pretty special to win here. It’s five years down the track so it would be special to pull it off. It’s my father’s birthday today so it was good to have a good score for him.”
Scotland’s Oldcorn, a two-time Staysure Tour winner, lies second in Bad Ragaz, one shot ahead of Peter Baker, José Coceres, Phillip Price and first round leader Clark Dennis, who all share fourth place on seven under par.
The 2018 European Tour Properties Senior Classic champion Magnus P Atlevi and England’s Simon P Brown share seventh place on six under par and will go into the final round three shots off the lead.
With thunderstorms forecast for Sunday, the final round will begin at 7.00am local time with the final group of O’Malley, Oldcorn and Coceres getting under way at 8.20am.
