Callaway’s Jaws wedge brand has been around for more than ten years but the market leading clubmaker has really ramped up the stakes with a raft of striking new features on the 2023 incarnations.

Callaway isn’t probably top of many people’s lists when they think about wedges but the American giant has utilised all the skills of legendary club designer Roger Cleveland to upgrade the Jaws to put it on a par with anything else out there.

The Jaws Raw line now comes with four club-head options while Cleveland has amplified the range so there are six grinds, up from four, to give the discerning buyer even more tailoring options.

The standard Raw wedge incorporates tungsten technology for the first time and the family now includes a new C grind developed for skilled and precise players, who manufacture multiple shots around the greens. Other changes mean the X grind now extends to 56° and 54° while the Z grind goes up to flop-shot-tastic 62°.

Grind breakdown

C-Grind (new)

A popular grind on Tour, truly built for skilled shot makers. With toe and heel relief, the leading edge will stay low even when you open the face. Players who can maintain swing speed through the ball are able to manufacture a variety of greenside shots.

Player Type: Skilled & Precise players who manufacture multiple shots around the greens
Divot Type: Shallow Divot
Condition Type: Firm

Lofts: 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°

Bounce: 8°

J-Grind (new)

Featured only on our Full Toe wedge, J grind was developed specially for a full toe shape with more camber front to back, and toe to heel, to expose the generous bounce. This bounce features even more relief on the heel to allow players the versatility of opening the face. It’s a forgiving grind with a pre-worn leading edge and 10° of bounce.

Player Type: Players who prioritize versatility in shotmaking, and forgiveness out of the bunker
Divot Type: Medium Divot
Condition Type: Soft
Lofts: 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°
Bounce: 10°

Z-Grind

A tri-level sole design, with an aggressive leading-edge chamfer that acts as a skid plate for enhanced turf interaction. The chamfer also reduces digging, making this a more playable low-bounce grind. This is a versatile grind around the greens for opening the face or hitting it square.

Player Type: Shot makers who like to open the face around the greens
Divot Type: Shallow Divot
Condition Type: Medium, Firm
Lofts: 58°, 60°, 62°
Bounce: 8°

S-Grind

Standard medium-width sole with a slight ribbon at the back, and moderate heel relief to keep the leading-edge low through impact. A small leading-edge chamfer is employed for enhanced turf interaction. This is our most popular grind option for a wide variety of conditions and swing types.

Player Type: Fits a variety of swing types; best for players who prefer a square face

Divot Type: Moderate Divot
Condition Type: Soft, Medium, Firm
Lofts: 48°, 50°, 52°, 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°

Bounce: 10°

X-Grind

Callaway’s highest bounce option provides heel and toe relief, along with a narrow width for versatility when you open the face. A small leading-edge chamfer is added to reduce digging. The wedge is best suited to shot makers with a steep angle of attack.

Player Type: Shot makers with a steep angle of attack

Divot Type: Deep Divot
Condition Type: Medium, Soft
Lofts: 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°

Bounce: 12°

W-Grind

Callaway’s widest sole option with a tighter front to back radius and a small leading-edge chamfer. This promotes skidding and reduces digging. This is our most forgiving sole grind. 12° of bounce.
Player Type: Our widest sole for players who need the most help and forgiveness.

Divot Type: Deep Divot

Condition Type: Soft
Lofts: 50°, 52°, 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°

Bounce: 12°

Interestingly, Callaway is certainly true to its ‘Raw’ word. The plating on the face has been removed, which allows for rusting over time in the scoring zone. Outside of that the club will look premium. Removing the plating is designed to enable a more direct connection between the ball and the face at impact.

Other features include the offset Groove-in-Groove technology, which positions the milled micro-grooves at a 20° angle to promote added spin on chips, pitches and lob shots while a muted toe pad on the face reduces glare at address.

The tungsten element has been added to facilitate control and feel with a more helpful centre of gravity (CG) position while variable length hosels are engineered to control trajectory while enhancing forgiveness.

The eye-catching full face groove version is available as a lob wedge with Z, S, & W grinds.

The CG is pushed higher to help create a more regular lower trajectory while Callaway’s Variable Weight Port System also pushes the CG away from the heel to encourage a better contact and enhanced feel.

The Full Toe shape option provides more face area with an enhanced but refined toe peak. The shaping works with the specialised J-Grind to make short shots around the green easy to hit, especially bunker shots and high flops. This wedge is built to perform on mid and full wedge shots too, with a pre-worn leading edge for great turf interaction.

Callaway’s Raw Black Plasma Product One-Liner now comes with left-handed options as well as the added tungsten technology and is available in a full S grind family (52°, 56° and 60°)  but also can be bought in Z, W and X (60°).

The Pitch, Gap, Sand and Lob Wedges have been meticulously crafted to enhance their specific performance benefits and the all-important variable length hosels are very helpful when it comes to controlling trajectory and enhancing forgiveness.

You can also have a bit of fun with your Jaws Raw wedges. Callaway has given you the ability to brighten up your clubs with 13 different colour zone options. For those looking for something really funky you can also add medallions, emojis and a variety of stamping options.
