Round 4 - Li Haotong wins with closing 64
May 2, 2016
China's Li Haotong shot a bogey-free 8-under 64 on Sunday to win the China Open for his first European Tour title.
The 20-year-old Li, who began the day two shots behind leaders Felipe Aguilar of Chile and Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard, finished three strokes clear of runner-up Aguilar at 22-under 266.
Aguilar, who shot a 69, held a two-shot lead at the turn but a double bogey on the par-3 16th dashed his title hopes.
Li missed the cut at last week's Shenzhen International, the first of back-to-back European Tour events in China.
''I just tried to relax myself and I'm really happy to hold the trophy here,'' Li said. ''The start of this year has given me a lot of hard times. Even though I worked hard I still played badly, especially last week. I worked hard there and couldn't control my ball.''
Bjerregaard shot a 70 to finish in a three-way tie for third with Marcel Siem of Germany and England's Richard Bland.
Peter Hanson, Scott Hend and Richie Ramsay followed at 17 under, a shot ahead of David Lipsky, Alex Noren, Borja Virto Astudillo and Fabrizio Zanotti.
Round 3 - Lucas Bjerregaard & Felipe Aguilar lead
May 1, 2016
Lucas Bjerregaard of Denmark fired a 7-under-par 65 to join Felipe Aguilar of Chile atop the China Open leaderboard after the third round on Saturday.
Bjerregaard started strong with an eagle on the par-4 No. 3 and added five birdies. Aguilar carded a 67 for a combined 16-under 200, and a two-shot lead over four others.
Belgium's Nicolas Colsaerts matched the low round of the day with a 65, and was tied for third at 14 under with local favorite Li Haotong (66), England's Tyrrell Hatton (67), and Alex Noren of Sweden (68).
A win for Bjerregaard would be his first on the European Tour.
Aguilar, who led after the second round, birdied the par-5 18th for a third straight day to get back to the top of the leaderboard.
Round 2 - Felipe Aguilar leads at halfway
April 30, 2016
Chilean Felipe Aguilar held on to his overnight lead as the weather-delayed second round of the Volvo China Open was completed in Beijing on Saturday morning.
The world number 477 fired a seven-under-par 65 on Friday to move to 11-under 133 overall before the second round was suspended because of the threat of lightning at Topwin Golf and Country Club.
When play resumed on Saturday, Austrian Bernd Wiesberger and Swede Alex Noren were joined in second place at 10-under by South African journeyman Hennie Otto, who added a 71 to the nine-under 63 that had given him the first-round lead.
Marcel Siem from Germany was at nine-under overall and five-under for his round when play ended and resumed with a double-bogey before recovering with a pair of birdies for a 67 to stay two behind Aguilar.
He was part of a four-way tie for fifth place alongside England's Tyrrell Hatton, Dane Lucas Bjerregaard and South Korean Kim Tae-Hoon, who surged 50 places up the leaderboard with an impressive 64, including a hole-in-one on the 177-yard 13th.
One shot further back was a group of five players at eight-under 136 -- Li Haotong from China, German Maximilian Kieffer, France's Gregory Havret, England's Richard Bland and American David Lipsky.
Round 1 - Hennie Otto tops first day leaderboard
April 29, 2016
Hennie Otto had seven birdies and an eagle in an opening round of 63 on Thursday to lead the China Open at 9 under.
It was Otto's lowest round in a European Tour event since he won the 2014 Italian Open.
The 39-year-old South African started on the 10th and had three birdies before turning in 33, then added birdies at the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th before chipping in for eagle on the par-5 8th.
''The first hole I saved a good par and I think that gave me momentum,'' said Otto, who has been working hard on his putting game. ''You have to hit it in the right places and that's the thing I did today. I hit them close, that makes a big difference.''
Bernd Wiesberger of Austria had eight birdies and a bogey for a 65 and was two shots behind.
Gregory Bourdy of France, Sweden's Peter Hanson, Roope Kakko of Finland and Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti had a share of third spot at 6 under.
Joost Luiten, who has finished second in his last two events, including the Shenzhen Open last weekend, was in a three way share of seventh at 5 under.
Rikard Karlberg won a Volvo car when he holed out with a seven iron on the 212-yard, par-3 16th for a hole-in-one during his 69.
Defending champion Wu Ashun, who became the first Chinese player to win a European Tour event on home soil last year, opened with a 71.
