After wasting two birdie chances at the CME Group Tour Championship on Friday, Sei Young Kim got a pep talk from Cristie Kerr, who was walking to the 18th tee in her role as a Golf Channel commentator.

"I just said, 'Yeah, I'm going to make the birdie.' Yeah, it come true," Kim said.

Kim's shot rolled toward the back pin and stopped within two feet of the hole, she tapped in for birdie and a 5-under 67 to hold on to her two shot lead.

Caroline Masson made a 40-foot birdie put on 18 for a 66 and will be joining Kim in the final group on Saturday.

Brooke Henderson made a poor start with a double bogey in her opening hole but closed with five birdies in her final seven holes to get back into contention three shots behind the leader with a 67.

"Great crowd, great energy out here," Henderson said. "I'm excited to be playing the weekend near the top of the leaderboard, so it should be fun."

World No.3 Nelly Korda also lies three shots back after firing a 31 and holding a one-shot lead at the turn.

A missed birdie put at the 16th put her one shot behind, then she missed a two foot putt.

"It's not going to be the last putt I miss," Korda said. "It's just how it is."

She hooked her shot at the 17th and came to rest under a tree where she had no choice and pitched it back to the fairway for a birdie chance that she missed to finish with a 68
