Traditionally staged in August, Made in Denmark will move forward to the week occupied in recent years by the BMW PGA Championship in England, and will follow the US PGA Championship at Bethpage in the revamped global golfing calendar.

As announced at the beginning of July, the tournament will return to its spiritual home of Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort in Farsø in 2019 – the venue for its first four stagings before the move to Silkeborg Ry Golf Club for this year’s event.

The move is part of a landmark five year deal which will see Made in Denmark secured on The Race to Dubai until 2023, and one which will see the tournament’s prize fund rise significantly to €3 million, with the winner at Himmerland next year pocketing €500,000.

Flemming Astrup, Made in Denmark promoter, said: “When we got this outstanding opportunity, we could not decline. The new date is great, and we are excited to be offered this week in 2019.

“The golfing calendar will be mixed next year, and the fact the tournament has now moved to the date occupied by the event at Wentworth, shows how quickly Made in Denmark has become a highly regarded tournament on the European Tour.”

Keith Pelley, Chief Executive of the European Tour, said: “Today’s announcement is a further boost not just for Made in Denmark itself but for golf in Denmark as a whole. We sincerely thank Lars Larsen, Chairman of the Made in Denmark Golf Trust, and Flemming Astrup for their passion and their commitment in making this happen.

“We have seen over the years how the tournament has developed, not just for the players but for the thousands of spectators who flock to Made in Denmark every year. Everyone at the European Tour looks forward to the next chapter back at Himmerland next May.”

Since its debut on the European Tour in 2014, Made in Denmark has produced excitement, colour and passion from the enthusiastic Danish crowds, especially on the famous Himmerland Hill around the 16th green of the Backtee Course, which has produced many memorable moments over the years.

While the 2019 Made in Denmark will take place at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort, it has yet to be decided where the tournament will be played in 2020 and beyond. However, it is the plan of the tournament’s promoters that it will rotate between various venues across the country.
