Round 4 - Jutanugarn beat Thompson and Chun in playoff
June 11 , 2017
Lexi Thompson looked set to win the Manulife LPGA Classic on Sunday with her lead extending to four shots at one point but a missed four-footer on the 18th set up a playoff with Ariya Jutanugarn and In Gee Chun. Thompson, after a poor chip, was left with a long putt off the green, Chun had a birdie attempt and missed but Jutanugarn sunk hers.
“I just can't believe I win the tournament,” said Jutanugarn. “When I got here I didn't feel comfortable to hit the golf ball and (I was) scared to hit my tee shot.[...] I just (went) out - and today is really windy and pretty hard to make birdie and even hit on the green – I just (made) sure I'm committed to every shot and go out and have fun.”

Round 3 - Thompson takes the lead on windy day
June 10, 2017
Lexi Thompson has taken the lead at the Manulife LPGA Classic on a windy day in Ontario with a 5-under 67.
“Today was a lot windier than the last two days, so there was just more shot-making and some pins were pretty difficult to get to. It was more just making pars and getting off the hole,” she said. “I'm playing very well and making some good putts, so hopefully just continue that tomorrow.”
Lindy Duncan also played 5-under to finish second one shot behind her.
Jackie Stoelting fired the round of the day with an 8-under par 64 and ten birdies making the most of an earlier round before the wind picked up in the afternoon. She is tied for ninth at 12-under.
“It was an awesome day,” said Stoelting. “This was my fourth (made) cut in a row, but the last three cuts I've moved the opposite direction on Saturday. I really tried to play more aggressively today.
Alena Sharp still leads the Canadians tied for fourth at 14-under.

Round 2 - Local Sharp moves into joint lead in Ontario
June 09, 2017
Alena Sharp, who lives near Whistle Bear in Hamilton, Ontario, shot a 6-under 66 to move into joint lead with Lexi Thompson and Hyo Joo Kim on Friday.
An early double bogey didn't hold her back and she finished the day with six birdies and an eagle.
“I felt good starting the day,” said Sharp. “I got up and had a nice little run. Just got the nervous energy out. Had a good warm up and just felt -- I don't know. This week has been different. I just walked up to the golf course yesterday and today just feeling like it was going to be a good day. Just had these good vibes coming out.”
Thompson played 7-under to get to the top and feels the course suits her game.
“I'm playing very well so far. Overall just having fun on the golf course, staying very relaxed, and focusing on doing my routine,” said Thompson. “I played some great golf, so hopefully that will continue into the weekend.”
Perrine Delacour fired a tournament-record score of 62, 10-under par. She hit al 18 greens in regulation, four birdies on the front nine and six on the back. Delacour finished round 1 1-under and is now tied for fourth place.
“Yesterday I hit 17 greens and I just couldn't make any putts. Then, today, I had really good putting. I spent 20 minutes yesterday on the putting green and I fixed it,” she explained of the secret to her success in the second round.

Round 1 - Pettersen and Lee tied for lead in Canada
June 08, 2017
Mi Hyang Lee and Suzann Pettersen have taken the opening lead in the Manulife LPGA Classic with bogey-free, 8-under 64s, helped along by perfect conditions on Thursday.
“We woke up this morning to perfect conditions. You can fire at pins and get to par fives, which is fun,” Pettersen said. “I think it's the best way to set up a golf course and get low scores. I'm very happy with the opening round I played.”
Shanshan Feng, who won two weeks ago at the Volvik LPGA Championship, played 7-under and is tied in third place with Hyo Joo Kim and Laura Escallon.
“I think after I captured the victory at the Volvik Championship I think my condition is pretty good. Everything is not bad. I mean, my ball striking is as good as usual and my putting is working also. I think I made six birdies and an eagle today, rolled it from outside of the green. So I'm really happy about what I did today,” she said.
Local Alena Sharp leads Canadian players with a round of 6-under 66 and is tied for sixth place.

Masson Primed for First Title Defense
In 2016, Germany’s Caroline Masson, picked up her first victory on the LPGA Tour at the Manulife LPGA Classic at Whistle Bear Golf Club, defeating Karine Icher, Minjee Lee and Mi Hyang Lee by one stroke. Masson started the day three shots back of the lead and fired a final round 6-under 66 to step inside the winner’s circle.
“Obviously this week is really special to me,” Masson said after a practice round on Tuesday. “It’s my first time defending, and, yeah, I’m just trying to soak it all in and trying to bring back those memories and those feeling that I had last year winning.”
Ever since the final putt dropped in 2016, Masson has been waiting to hear her name called on the first tee as the defending champion. “I think it’s a pretty cool moment hopefully to be introduced as the defending champion,” she said. “After that, it’s just another golf tournament. I have to focus on my golf and get that mindset that obviously I want to win this week, like I want to every week.”
Hometown Hero
When Brooke Henderson teed it up at last year’s Manulife LPGA Classic, the 2015 LPGA rookie was already a three-time LPGA winner, a major champion and a successful Cambia Portland Classic title defender.
It’s been 26 starts since the Smith Falls, Ontario, native last found herself in the winner’s circle, but she says that’s no cause for panic. “I think if I continue to be patient and make that one or two more putts early in the week,” Henderson said on Tuesday, “and hopefully once I feel the rush of the fans and feel their positive energy I can continue to improve and get better and get back to having some top-10 finishes.”
This week marks Henderson’s third appearance in her home country at the Manulife LPGA Classic, and while she has yet to post a top-25 finish, she likes her odds this week. “I haven’t had a great finish here yet at the Manulife Classic, especially since it’s moved to Whistle Bear,” Henderson said, “but I really like the course and I think it’s going to set up well for my game this week.”
While she hasn’t had a top-10 performance in her home country, she likes the excitement that comes with it. “Of course there is going to be a little bit more pressure,” she said. “But I love big crowds. I love playing in front of all my fans. I hope a lot of people come out and a lot of people support, and hopefully I can put on a good show for them.”
Quotable
“Coming home, seeing fans, I want to really show them how much I appreciate their support every single week.”
