Round 4 - Henderson captures fourth title

June 18, 2017

Brooke Henderson has won her fourth LPGA Tour title at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.

Henderson fired a bogey-free 3-under 66 (the par-5 fifth hole was again converted to a par-3 due to standing water in the fairway).

“Just super excited right now,” said Henderson. “I played really steady golf today, and that putt on No.16 was really huge. Especially looking back now, it's even bigger than what I thought it was. It's really cool to be able to make those putts under pressure. The leaderboard is packed. There are so many great names up there, so to finish on top is really exciting."

Henderson hit 11 of 12 fairways and only missed two greens on Sunday.

“It was really tough today. To shoot 3-under and I don't think I had any bogeys today either, which was great. The wind really picked up. I was kind of surprised when I looked at the leaderboard and I had a two-shot lead on the 18th green,” she said. “Super happy and I'm just glad it's done and I finally have my fourth win.”

Lexi Thompson finished second again this week after she lost the playoff at the Manulife LPGA Classic last week. She could have tied Henderson's score on the 18th but needed to hole out from the fairway and missed ending up 30 feet away.

“[The wind] was just swirling so it was tough to really concentrate on the shot that you wanted to hit and commit to it. Like the other three days, it was pretty easy to commit to it. Today was definitely a little more difficult. Didn't hit it as well as I wanted to, but that's okay, it's golf,” she explained.

Michelle Wie finished tied for second, her best finish this year. She had no bogeys but couldn't make better than par on the back nine.

“It was tough out there,” said Wie. “The wind just started blowing and it was just interesting. Some spots are really wet, some spots are dry, but overall I felt like I played good this week and I'm happy about it.”

Ariya Jutanugarn also had her best finish of the season with a final day 3-under 66 to get to 14-under and a share of fourth place. It is her third straight top-10 finish following T6 at the LPGA Volvik Championship and T7 at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, and her fifth overall this season.

Round 3 - Lexi Thompson leading into final round again

June 17, 2017

Lexi Thompson has taken the lead heading into the final round once again in spite of a two-hour rain delay, making the most of the soft course conditions.

“It was just a matter of staying patient,” Thompson said of her key for Saturday. “I knew I was hitting it well on the front nine, I just wasn't making the birdies. But I hit it well all day, so it was all a matter of hitting the shots closer and I guess just taking advantage of like No. 11, reaching that one in two, and making a few putts for birdie.”

Torrential rain during the night led to standing water on the par 5 5th which had to be converted to a par 3 on Saturday.

Lee-Anne Pace shot the round of the day with an 8-under 61 she credits to her recent iron play after an equipment change a couple of weeks ago.

“The last few weeks I've struck my irons really, really well. I just changed the irons and it's made all the difference,” said Pace. “I played really nicely (today). My irons were really good. I was looking at birdie on almost every hole, which was nice.”

Round 2 - Henderson holds on to lead heading into the weekend

June 16, 2017

Brooke Henderson keeps her lead heading into the weekend, her round pf 4-under 66 puts her two shots ahead of Carlota Ciganda, Mi Jung Hur and Lexi Thompson in second place.

Henderson's lead had increased to four shots after four birdies in a row halfway through her round but two bogeys back-to-back at the end dropped it down to two.

“Two bogeys to finish, but that just gives me a little more motivation going into tomorrow,” she said.”

Henderson holds the 36-hole scoring record at 12-under for two rounds.

“It's great to see my name up there (on the top of the leaderboard). It's been a little bit of a rough season so far, not getting the results that I've been looking for. But this week seems to be a turnaround week and hopefully I can just finish strong the next two days,” she said.

carlota Ciganda's bogey-free 7-under 64 is the round of day and her best result of the year so far.

“I played really solid, I made really good putts,” said Ciganda. “I like the course. I feel comfortable. I played here last year and I'm excited for the weekend.”

Mi Jung Hur, who has three top-5 finishes this season was frustrated with her round on Thursday with four bogeys and was aiming to be bogey-free on Friday.

“I had four bogeys yesterday and I really frustrated myself,” she explained. “Today was bogey-free, so I love it.”

Lexi Thompson made three bogeys but countered them with six birdies for a 3-under par 68.

Round 1 - Henderson one shot clear of pack in Michigan

June 15, 2017

Brooke Henderson has taken the lead in Michigan with her lowest round of the season, an 8-under 63 that included six birdies and an eagle, and no bogeys. Henderson averaged nearly 290 yards off the tee, hit 77% of the fairways and 89% of the greens.

“I felt like today was going to be a really good day,” she said. “Everything was just kind of going my way. I was hitting the ball really well and some putts were dropping, which is kind of a change from the last few weeks. It's really exciting and I'm looking forward to the next three days.”

Henderson lies one shot clear of six players tied for second place including Lexi Thompson, continuing her good form this year. Thompson loves the layout of Blythefield Country Club and feels it plays to her strengths.

“I hit basically driver on every hole. A few of the fairways like the last two are tough to hit because I'm a right-to-left player and I kind of run out of room, but, this is definitely a great layout for my game,” she said.
